Milton, FL was established in 1844. Though I have lived in Milton my whole life, I haven't taken the time to really look at the area. With this series of photographs I will be documenting the discovery of my hometown through the people who live there and will allow for the photographs to speak for themselves. I will be using blurb.com to create my book. It will be 10x8, hardcover with a dust jacket. The book will consist of up to 20 pages of full bleed photographs.
This series is going very well. I think the two graduation shots might clash with the rest of your series depending on the rest of the shots you add. -sky
ReplyDeleteI agree with Sky above. These are going great. It remind me of back home. (I'm from a really small town, also.) By saying that, I can't really tell the difference between Milton and my hometown. Is there some of of monumental landmark that makes Milton.. Milton? Also, with the photos, you are taking them straight on, which can tend to be a little boring. Try using different angles.. Maybe Rule of Thirds?
ReplyDeleteyour book is going well. it has the story and emotion. it wasn't just one shoot of picture. it has acting. i lovc ur project. I expect the another one. good job.
ReplyDeleteThese are really strong images. It's like I'm getting to know these people and they place they inhabit. I like that!
ReplyDeleteThis is very photodocumentarianjournalistic. The quality is sharp and clear.
ReplyDeleteThe only slightly weak thing was the cropping on the banana on the checkout line.
Your overall idea is terrific. The only shots that I have a problem with are the ones that you took at Winn Dixie. The reason why is because of the fact that there are Winn Dixie's all across America. I have lived in Miami, Orlando and Tallahassee and there are Winn Dixie’s in those cities as well. Winn Dixie isn’t specific just to Milton. People who look at the Winn Dixie photos might think of any old Winn Dixie in any city. Try sticking to only things that only Milton has, or pertain to Milton. The rest of your shots fit that mold perfectly.

You're doing a great job with your book. I like all of the images because they do convey that sense of small town-ness. Watch the cropping, otherwise, good work.

i think you stepped it up a bit. and you are capturing everything close to perfect.
ReplyDeleteI like the images conveying a small town, but I think variety would be better. Like maybe not have multiple grocery store settings. I see a barber shop or a baker. Try cropping some more to delete the empty space.

The top image is fantastic. Keep shooting. You will edit down to your top 20 and that will be much easier with 50 or so images.
ReplyDeleteGreat eye sister!

Very strong images. They convey a lot. The angles and lighting are working well. You are doing a great job. I'm impressed with this series so far.
ReplyDeleteLove it, would love it more is the guy wasn't dead center.... maybe some more close ups would be exciting.... no scratch that.. they would be exciting! keep on keepin' on.

Your doing great! Out of the new ones you just posted, the man in front of the destroyed building and the grad hugging are the strongest to me. I'm not crazy about the grocery store photos because I can't tell that it is a grocery store from a small town, it could be anywhere. The tasty freeze one is a keeper though! These are coming along awesome! Keep up the great work!

the images are really interesting. i agree with the thing about winndixie. dont forget about the old train depot.

Your new pictures really seem to be grasping what you are wanting to capture in them! I don't have a problem with having graduation photos included even though I do think that the crowd graduation picture isn't as strong as the rest. I think it adds some really nice emotion to the series.

I guess I'll play devils advocate...
ReplyDeleteI like the Winn Dixie shots...they aren't about Winn Dixie, they are about the people there, so I think they work for your project.
I also like the graduation shots because a large percentage of the people living in Milton, like myself, are native Miltonites. They graduated from Milton High School. They still go to MHS football games. Their kids go to MHS. You can't leave MHS out of a project about Milton.
